We know that not all countries are built the same... different types of people are treated better in some countries more than others, and it can be hard to pick a country to comfortably escape to while taking this into account. Thankfully, we did all the hard work for you, and compiled a list of the most safe and enjoyable countries for you to visit when you're ready to fly away and free yourself of the daily routine.

Here's our 2026 top 10 list of countries for Black women to travel to:

Bermuda

As a majority-Black island, Bermuda offers a refreshingly inclusive representation for Black women travelers. English is the official language, locals are known for their hospitality, and the crime rates are low compared to other beach destinations. Whether solo or with friends, Bermuda allows for a sense of relaxation without the constant vigilance that may be required in some other vacation spots.

Iceland

Iceland consistently ranks among the safest countries in the world and is popular with solo female travelers. While it’s not a culturally diverse country, Black women have reported that their experiences there are generally respectful, and any curiosity from locals doesn't usually turn into unwelcoming stares or comments. You can feel free to wander the waterfalls, glaciers, and capital, Reykjavik, on your own terms.

Maldives

The vast majority of visitors to the Maldives stay at private resort islands. These places are inherently secure, quiet, and set up for unparalleled relaxation, making it a great choice for Black women looking to completely disconnect and focus on de-stressing rather than navigating cityscapes or unfamiliar social dynamics. Resort staff are accustomed to guests from diverse backgrounds.

Japan

Japan is frequently recommended for solo female travelers because it has extremely low rates of violent crime and reliable public transportation. The cultural respect and sense of public order are widely reported, and while Black travelers may sometimes draw curious glances due to Japan's homogeneity, most report their interactions to be polite rather than discriminatory. You’ll likely feel comfortable exploring both bustling cities and serene towns.

Spain

Spain's open and social culture is ideal for women who want to feel at ease exploring a new place and meeting people. Major cities like Madrid and Barcelona are international melting pots where tourists of all backgrounds blend in, and Black travelers generally report positive experiences, especially in more tourist-centric areas. It’s a walkable country with vibrant public spaces and nightlife, making it an enjoyable destination to explore.

The Netherlands

The Netherlands is progressive, multicultural, and has a great public transportation system. Amsterdam is particularly diverse, with people from hundreds of different nationalities living there, so it feels natural for all types of travelers to fit in. Black women often report feeling comfortable navigating the city on their own while enjoying its welcoming and lively atmosphere.

Ghana

Perhaps the most impactful aspect for many Black women travelers is the ability to go to a country where Black identity is the norm, not the exception. Ghanaians are known for their hospitality and warm interactions, and visitors often feel an immediate sense of belonging, whether they're experiencing historical sites or the bustling nightlife of Accra. Many describe the experience as one where they are embraced rather than alienated.

Mexico City

Mexico City has become incredibly welcoming to international travelers, with a growing community of Black expats and digital nomads. The most popular neighborhoods for visitors-Roma Norte, Condesa, Polanco-are easily walkable and dotted with cafes, museums, and restaurants. While it's important to be aware of your surroundings like any major city, solo women travelers have reported enjoying it as a vibrant and manageable destination.

Germany

Germany's largest cities are diverse, with sizable international populations, which makes it easy to find neighborhoods that cater to different tastes and offer inclusive spaces. Berlin is especially known for its open and expressive atmosphere, attracting visitors from all over the globe. Its efficient public transportation and generally low violent crime rates also make it a comfortable choice for women traveling throughout Europe.

Brazil

Brazil has the largest population of people of African descent outside of Africa, and Afro-Brazilian culture is deeply integrated into its music, food, traditions, and daily life. Places like Salvador are particularly resonant for Black travelers due to the visible celebration of African heritage. While travelers may need to take more precautions regarding personal safety in Brazil compared to some other destinations on this list, particularly regarding petty theft in larger cities, the warmth of the people, the cultural relevance, and the vibrant energy are deeply rewarding.
